Iraklia is divided in two settlements, Agios Georgios, which is the port of the island, and Chora (the capital), named “Panagia”, at a distance of 4 kms from the port. Iraklia is famous for its trekking routes. Every fan of this sport is impressed by the wild landscapes and the breathtaking views.
Iraklia is a part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 Network since 2006, and it constitutes a shelter for various wild birds.
The beaches of the island are amazing, with their blue-green water. There are some sandy beaches on the island: Agios Georgios, Livadi, Vorini Spilia (Northern Cave) and Alimia, which is famous for the remains of the German hydroplane which sunk there during the 2nd World War.
Besides, there are beaches with pebbles, such as Tourkopigado, Ammoudi in Merichas bay, and Karvunolakos, as well as rocky beaches such as Xilobatis and Vala.

Iraklia is the westernmost island of Small Cyclades. Its surface area is 18,078 square kms and it has 151 inhabitants. It is located in the south of Naxos and it belongs to the regional unit of Thira.
