Kea(Tzia) Ferry Tickets
Also known as Tzia, Kea is a beautiful island with rich history which is reflected in the archaeological monuments and natural beauties. The transitions of landscape will amaze you.
It is one of the most popular destinations and offers the perfect escape from everyday life. The wild mountains give way to small fields and olive groves. The steep ravines lead to small picturesque coves and secluded beaches.
Paved paths, scattered rural residences, monasteries, churches and watermills. Altogether a total dream, so harmonious and charming, that one only finds in the Cyclades.
Kea has important archaeological sites and monuments such as the Lion of Ioulidas, carved in natural rock. Try traditional sweets and buy honey, “pasteli” (sesame honey candy) and greek “Spoon Sweets”-sweet preserves served in a spoon.
Information
Kea is the northernmost island of the western Cyclades and is located at the eastern tip of Attica. Just 17 nautical miles from the port of Lavrion, which is connected daily with regular routes. In ancient times it was known for its custom “koniazesthe” – residents who exceeded their seventieth year committed suicide by drinking hemlock (in greek, konio).
Archaeological research has shown that the island was first inhabited in the Neolithic Ages and experienced its cultural peak during the Bronze Age.
In the Archaic period (7th-6th century B.C) four cities were founded that were linked together by a road network: Ioulis, Karthea, Korissos and Piiesa – the first city was in the island, while the other cities were coastal with harbors. The highest peak is Profitis Ilias at 568 meters.
